Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Fun Ride – Dragoon, AZ

Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Fun Ride Rocks

The 1st Annual Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Fun Ride. A scenic 7.8 mile course winding through beautiful Texas Canyon in Dragoon, AZ. We were able to ride an in area that is normally closed to the public and support the Amerind Museum’s mission of “fostering and promoting knowledge and understanding of the Native Peoples of the Americas through research, education, conservation, and community engagement”. A win-win.

Texas Canyon Trail is an easy, non-technical ride that allows plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. It’s a mix of sandy single and double track. A few rocks dot the trail, but it’s mostly hard-packed and sandy. A large trough of deep sand toward the end presents a challenge, but if you find an easy gear and don’t stop pedaling you can make it through. The elevation profile is up and down with a longer climb toward the last part of the ride, but no long strenuous climbs. With the exception of a couple dry creek crossings, a beginner could ride this trail.

Texas Canyon Rock Formations

No shortage of beautiful scenery in Texas Canyon. The rock formations toward the end of the ride make the climb worth while.

Beautiful scenery, great weather, mountain biking with friends while supporting a good cause. All in all, it was a great Southern AZ experience.

Texas Canyon Highlights

Since we live near Texas Canyon I don’t have a hotel recommendation but do check out the Amerind Museum and Art Gallery or, if you’re just passing through, stop at the Texas Canyon Rest area off of Eastbound Interstate 10 near mile marker 320 east of Benson. It is one of the most scenic rest areas in the state.

Our favorite place to eat in Benson is Mi Casa Restaurant. Benson’s best kept secret. Located in a tiny, unpretentious yellow casa it is, in my opinion, one of the best Mexican Restaurants in Southern AZ. It’s only open weekdays for lunch and dinner so plan ahead and get there early. Save room for dessert, their carrot cake is phenomenal.

We’ll be back next year for the 2nd Annual Texas Canyon Mountain Bike Fun Ride.
